Chapter 13 – Celia makes a mistake

Moorish philosopher, Venice
Finally! The next chapter is ready for you to read. It seems like ages since I was able to do this project properly and it's nice to be back. The audio recording of this chapter and all the others can be found on the right under 'Good stuff', Audio files 1-9 or 10+.

The story so far:
Dr Celia Thomas, an art historian based in Munich, has been asked to restore a 16th century chapel in Istria. It's owner, Colonal Kaiec is hoping that she will uncover a 16th century religious masterpiece which will help his political aspirations in Croatia. Apart from working on the chapel, Celia is also trying to find out if her brother Ned, believed to have been killed in 1995 in Bosnia Herzegovina, is in fact alive. Helping her is Tomislav Lederer, a journalist based in Zagreb...

This chapter can now be found on the right under 'Good Stuff'

  1. Dear James,
this chapter definitely marks the take-off of the thriller after everything has been carefully arranged in chapters 1 to 12. It looks like the looooong break did the novel good.
Hopefully the next chapter will come soon!

  2. Dear James,

I'm afraid I do not completely understand your problem. What do you mean by "Celia does't seem to have any flaws"? In my opinion she made some serious mistakes by confiding in dubious figures like Colonel Kaiec and also in some of the people she met at her brothers funeral. Don't you think it would be enough of a crisis that due to her course of action some of the "good ones" were hurt or killed like Tomi Lederer or Colonel Kaiecs ex-wife? And that she put herself and her family under extreme risk?
In my opinion she has got enough problems and it would be time to stop her suffering and find a nice way out of it for her ;-)
And perhaps some of the threads started in the last chapters - like the loss of her job - can be easily omitted without damage to the story.
